Boron trifluoride

 Boron Trifluoride Diemethyl Carbonate (BF3-DMC)

Growing demand for boron trifluoride

With the development of oil & gas and petrochemical industries, there has been a tremendous growth in hydrocarbon synthesis and other chemicals through shale gas extraction, which use boron trifluoride as a major catalyst in the reaction process. This, in turn, is driving the market demand for boron trifluoride and its complexes.

The demand for boron trifluoride (BF3) gas and etherides is expected to grow at a significant CAGR. In addition, the application of boron trifluoride and its complexes as catalysts is expected to grow at a healthy CAGR due to the huge demand generated by synthetic reactions such as polymerization, alkylation, isomerization and other chemical synthesis.

Applications

Boron trifluoride is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis reactions, in the manufacture of synthetic oil and lubricant additives, and in the production of high-purity boron isotopes.

Boron trifluoride (BF3) is used in a variety of applications. As a strong Lewis acid, the catalytic properties of BF3 can be used in reactions such as alkylation of aromatics, polymerization of phenolic and epoxy resins, and other isomerization, esterification, and condensation reactions. It is used as a source for the manufacture of high-purity boron isotopes, such as in nuclear waste containment and neutron radiation control applications, and in the semiconductor industry, such as in the manufacture of semiconductor-grade silicones. BF3 is also used as a gas flux in brazing and brazing and in the production of ethylborane and other boron-containing compounds.
